I was squeezing a small bottle very close to my face and it slipped and hit my eye with considerable force.
I am in agony. My eyeball hurts. Help. Its red.

get an emergency optician appointment when they open
In the meantime put something cold on it and take some painkillers

PoachesPeaches · 17/09/2024 07:56

It's gone blurry and I can't see. Fuck. A&E?

Optician or a&E? There is an optician 5 mins away. I can go there.

PoachesPeaches · 17/09/2024 07:57

Fuck I've definitely damaged something.

Have you got an ice pack to put on it and bathe it with running water, and rest it closing your eye and see how you are later. I’ve had a few eye injuries from children to dog hitting me in the eye with a ball.

Songlines · 17/09/2024 08:01

My local a&e has a specialist eye unit within it. Worth checking yours?
Poor you, sounds scary

PoachesPeaches · 17/09/2024 08:02

I can try ice. I mean it literally hit my eye ball. I didn't even have time to blink.

Ring 111 or your GP now for proper medical advice please. Don’t mess around with eyes, they are hard to fix and very much depended on.

maverickfox · 17/09/2024 08:03

Go to A&E or an urgent care centre. That is where the optician will send you.

PoachesPeaches · 17/09/2024 08:10

Thanks OK my hospital has an eye clinic. I will go there.

a&e eyes don’t wait

PoachesPeaches · 17/09/2024 09:04

In A&E with 90 min wait. Enough time to reflect on my life choices. I just really hope I didn't damage the retina.

Don't panic - you've probably just scratched your cornea. It does really hurt, but heals quickly.

I hope you're not waiting too long.

You've definitely not damaged your retina - it would require significantly more force.

PoachesPeaches · 17/09/2024 09:32

It's confusing as the advice online said if it hurts go to A&E.

It's just a scratch and they gave me some treatment. Glad I got it checked. They were really nice. Amazingly they have a little eye room and didn't even have to go into the main hospital.

I wasn't saying that you shouldn't have gone, just that you couldn't have damaged your retina at the back of the eye.

Painful eyes need to see drs/opticians!

I appreciated the reassurance! Was a definite scratch on the cornea on tests so I'm glad I got it seen to :)
