Hi, just wondering if anyone has any similar experience or knowledge & could advise on the incident below, I’d be very grateful if so.
I have had big problems with chronic UTIs in the past so have some prescription antibiotics from the urologist at home for recurrences (cefalexin). I’ve taken it before with no problems.
Last Friday I had developed a painful UTI in preceding days so started taking cefalexin for it Friday morning. Early evening/ late afternoon Friday I very suddenly started feeling awful - shivering uncontrollably, freezing cold, nauseous, palpitations, my asthma seemed to be playing up, and weirdly my gums all of a sudden felt incredibly enflamed & sore, like my teeth were falling out. Maybe worst was this awful feeling that I was dying! I was so paranoid that although I could hardly move or think I staggered to the front door & left it open in case I died overnight & the poor dog was stuck inside & ate my dead body!
I was awake much of the night, writhing around, took paracetamol & ibuprofen which did nothing, aspirin which seemed to help a bit, got some sleep about 5am & the next morning the worst had gone, I’d warmed up, no more shivering or nausea or feeling of doom, was just exhausted & very weak.
I assumed this was some sort of weird cold, a viral thing, maybe covid, as there’s so much going round. But I’ve started wondering- could this in fact have been some sort of systemic infection caused by the UTI, and treated by the antibiotics? Does it sound more like that?
I’m a bit worried that it may have been in case this has implications for future UTIs if I don’t have antibiotics to hand- whether it could have got worse without them 😬.
