Lipoedema diagnosis

Hello Ladies,
I’m seeking some advice and would appreciate any guidance you can offer. I’ve recently been diagnosed with Lipoedema by my GP, who mentioned that I’ll be referred to a specialist. However, this referral might take several months. In the meantime, I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do to manage my condition.
I’m aware that surgery for Lipoedema isn’t covered by the NHS or AXA, so I’m considering seeking treatment abroad—possibly in Poland, where I’m originally from. Has anyone here been diagnosed with Lipoedema in the UK and pursued treatment abroad? I’m feeling quite anxious and don’t want to wait until next year for the NHS to respond.
Thank you in advance for any advice or experiences you can share.

I have lipoedema and have had it since puberty (I am pretty old now so more than 40 years of it but wasn't diagnosed and it wasn't recognised by the NHS for a very long time). I considered surgery at one point but decided against it as,although I saw a Harley Street Surgeon, I wasn't convinced it would make a big difference. Things that have helped me are keeping my weight at a healthy level, walking regularly, I also find that swimming feels really comfortable. I would ask to see the practice nurse at your GP who can measure and advise which compression stockings to wear. I don't wear the compression stockings regularly but sometimes it can be helpful to avoid aching legs. I make sure to choose really nice (wide leg) trousers and maxi-dresses for special occasions to help my mood. It took me quite some time to come to terms with the condition so I understand but I am fortunate that it has not got significantly worse in all these years, I think there is support on Facebook from a group called lipodema ladies and they look like a lovely group. I hope this helpsx
