Toddler drank carton of juice that had this in it

I apologise if this is stupid but I’m generally anxious and really worried, but don’t know if it’s worth a call to 101 or GP.

my toddler occasionally has cartons of juice and has a tendency to push the straw all the way into the carton. She was struggling with it so I put the straw in not thinking about it and then she did the same thing. I found another straw and put it in and she drank the juice.

I then realised the straw that was inside felt really hard and opened the carton and it actually wasn’t a straw and my child must have picked up this random plastic thing and in my error I’ve put it in.

my child had this about am hour ago and is absolutely fine at the moment but wondering if I should be getting some advice on whether it’s dangerous that this random plastic was swirling in the drink, I don’t know where she picked it up from. It didn’t seem dirty or anything when she g ave it to me. I feel so incredible stupid and I’m usually vigilant with watching her. I’m so worried.

I put photos of the plastic on the post.

please no horrible or sarcastic comments I know I’m anxious and probably stupid and im trying to get help for my anxiety. I feel like an idiot.

Huh! I reckon it will be fine. Are you at a cafe or something (looks like it?) in which case you don’t know where that piece of plastic has come from? I really wouldn’t worry, she must have been exposed to loads of things before now (toddler hands get everywhere!).

Hallamlass · 11/09/2024 16:45

You're not stupid, you'd need ten pairs of eyes to watch the average toddler at times!
I would say it's probably fine. The plastic hasn't disintegrated, so she won't have ingested it. I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure she's put all sorts of stuff in her mouth before now.

Yes we were at a coffee shop!

It looks like a lolly stick to me

but it will be fine it happens to everyone - DS went through a stage of eating rocks and very small toys (had an older sister)

It's natural to worry. Baby's mouth toys and crawl on floors he will survive.

Yes I also thought it looked like a lolly stick.

She'll have had way worse in her mouth before (mine once tried to eat beach sand -🤢 bearing mind sea water is full of fish and bird poo at best, and animals pee on beaches etc).

She'll be fine.

Agree it looks like a lolly stick. Bit yuck as presumably found on the floor from
a kid that had been there before but toddlers are gross and it won’t be the first or last thing that’s gone near her mouth that has also been on the floor and in another kid’s mouth. Take your eye off them for a split second and honestly!! I wouldn’t be worried though. Just marginally grossed out but I suppose that’s parenting little ones for you!

Lemonadeand · 11/09/2024 17:49

It’s gross but not dangerous. Not worth a call to 111 or GP. (Incidentally, 101 is the non emergency police number, not the NHS).

Fastback · 11/09/2024 17:53

What are you worried about exactly?
