Neck spasm

I didn't win the 8am GP rush this morning so looking for some advice before I try again tomorrow.
I had a sore neck yesterday. Today I've woken up and it's exceptionally painful. Ibuprofen etc not touching the pain, and it hurts to move in any direction. Multiple specific movements (reaching forward with my right arm for example, or turning my head to the right) leave me gasping in pain.
I'm 99% sure it's muscular - it's that kind of pain you get when you've slept wrong but it's almost unbearable. It's even making my arm feel slightly tingly (right arm).
It happens to me occasionally - last time was a few years ago and it was the same then. Last time after it going on for 3-4 days, I ended up paying for a private osteo and £200+ which sorted it out.
I don't have that cash right now so whilst I will try the GP if I can even get an appointment - can anyone suggest any remedies for releasing a neck spasm? I have taken max doses of painkillers so no more I can take for a while. Also have a heat pack on it right now.

Also, I am assuming that the tingly arm is just radiating pain - but we have a family history of MS and I worry sometimes that things like this could be related (again will mention this to the GP if I ever get there although I'm sure they'll think I'm just being a hypochondriac).
