Emetophobia and IBS

Hi, just wanting some reassurance really as I am currently in panic mode. I suffer from emetophobia, it's not as intense as it was years ago as then I was in a state every day worrying that I would be sick and it restricted my life somewhat whereas now I worry just when I have any symptoms that I think might cause me to be sick.

I also have IBS and find it very difficult to keep control when this comes on because I convince myself that it's a stomach bug and I'm going to be sick. One night last year a friend had to take me home in a taxi after I completely freaked out in a restuarant because I'd suddenly had to run to the loo and had the runs.

When I am OK I am OK, I can eat normally now but when this comes on I almost starve myself.

Last night I had been OK and suddenly in bed I started with stomach cramps, ended up with really bad diarrhoea. I got about two hours sleep because I kept going to the loo and was in a such a panic. I took a valium which the doctor lets me have (just a small supply) in case of bad panic attacks but that didn't touch me like it usually does because I had to keep going to loo and that kept me awake.

I've been to work today, I've not had diarrhoea siince but my stomach still feels sore and gripey. I've only eaten a banana today and I'm going to have some toast for my tea.

If you have this condition also, how do you cope when it comes on? What foods do you eat, are you scared to eat most of the time. What if it comes on again tonight? I live alone and can only calm myself down.
