Swollen area under left armpit? Photo attached

My anxiety is through the roof and I’m really worried.

I haven’t been feeling great for a while and I’m due to get bloods tomorrow. I told the doctor 2 weeks ago one of my symptoms was a soreness under my left armpit and down my arm. Whilst getting dressed tonight I’ve noticed my left armpit looks swollen compared to my right side.

Does anyone else have this? Or is it normal that I’m concerned?

I would imagine it's swollen lymph nodes but good to get your bloods done to check.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 02/09/2024 20:01

I had this - had scan etc and no issues. It was not a hard lump just soft.

I think could have been caused by developing an allergy to my deodorant.

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky thanks for your message that’s really reassured me. Glad everything was OK

What was this please? I have EXACTLY the same x

JustLaura · 04/10/2024 22:41

I have this but more pronounced than the photo actually.

I had an ultrasound and also a breast screen. Both said fatty tissue.

GP thought lipoma (Do not get this confused with lymphoma as I did on a Google search).

I had fluctuated in weight a lot so GP thought that may be linked too.

Is it soft or firm?

gingerbears · 05/10/2024 09:21

@JustLaura thank you for replying. Glad yours was okay. Mine is soft. Doesn't feel like a lump as such. Was yours the same? I had an ultrasound a few weeks ago for breast pain and she said my lymph node was raised but didn't say anything else. If it was concerning I'm guessing she would have said so?

@gingerbears Yes, mine is a soft, looks like a lump/swelling but has no edges to a lump by feel (hope that makes sense!).

Sometimes mine aches a bit if I'm run down/have a virus but I expect that's the lymph nodes moving the fatty area and possibly pressing on a nerve.

Are you due to go back to your GP?

Can you access your ultrasound report online?

I would think if it was anything serious they would have contacted you by now. Easier said than done, but try not to worry.

@gingerbears That should put your mind at rest then.

Is it painful?

gingerbears · 05/10/2024 10:51

@JustLaura I hope so!! no pain, was yours? X

@gingerbears No pain. Just ached when I was ill but think that was lymph nodes pressing on nerves.

Will you let us know an update after your appointment?

@JustLaura she could feel a lump. I have to wait to go back on Monday to my gp. I'm so worried now.

Samesame47 · 05/10/2024 12:17

I have lots of lumps and swelling under armpits, it fluctuates depending on time of month, sometimes sore sometimes barely noticeable. Mine is a combination of fatty tissue and swollen lymph nodes, at it worst they are my armpit boobs! I am a size 8, 9 stone just seems that this is an unfortunate place for fat to settle on me! Also weirdly anytime I have a vaccination (I have issues with my immune system ) the side I am injected on always swells up. I’ve been checked out and it’s nothing to concern about. It didn’t really start with me until I reached my mid 30’s. Hopefully your swelling is not more sinister than mine

RichmondReader · 05/10/2024 17:50

I have this - much more pronounced. It happened after breast feeding DC two. Apparently it's rogue breast tissue. It's soft and I make sure they scan it when I have a mammogram. It's ugly because it looks like fat and I haven't worn anything strappy for ten years now, but it's apparently nothing to worry about

gingerbears · 05/10/2024 18:29

Just paid privately for an ultrasound at a London clinic as couldn't wait for the 2 week referral. All normal!!! Basically breast tissue after birth. So relieved!!

@RichmondReader similar to you!

@gingerbears Good news! Have a good weekend

HasB · 01/11/2024 18:35

I'm going through same thing and would appreciate some reassurance - same type of swelling/lump between armpit and breast - nothing hard but sore. Have seen GP now waiting for 2 weeks

Anyonelse · 01/11/2024 21:39

Unfortunately no update from me @HasB , have had mine checked twice by 2 separate doctors and both have said nothing to worry about as they can’t feel any swollen lymph nodes in the area and I have no other breast lumps. Not in a situation at the moment to pay for a private scan but I will when I get the chance.

@gingerbears sorry for the late reply, glad to hear your good news!

It’s hard to tell from the photo op but it looks to be as though you have (completely and totally normal!) discrepancy in breast size. The other one looks slightly fuller ( only noticeable because we are all staring at a photo in a bra!) . To me it looks as if the underarm bulge looks bigger because the breast isn’t coming out quite as far on that side of your body so the proportional bulge is different . Do you see what I mean?

Try not to worry. We can be quite lumpy bumpy creatures - though good you are getting it checked out.

Oh did you mean left as we look at it? Or your left? I reckon it’s your right pit that looks swollen!
