Why am I so hairy?

I’m mid 20s and never been pregnant, of white ethnicity.
Since I was about 15 I’ve always had dark upper lip hair and black, thick chin hair. I’ve always had to have a removal session every couple of days.

When I was around 20 I then started getting multiple black, pubic like hair above my bellybutton. I also have a few dark hairs on my nipples 🙁

I’ve always just gotten on with it but friends I’ve spoken to say they have none of this.

When I’ve searched online PCOS always comes up as a possibility, but trouble is I have none of the symptoms. My periods are always regular, around 30 days cycle length. I’m an average weight, I’ve always had thin hair but no thinning as such.

I’ve seen others posting online but either they seem to be pregnant or quite a bit older than me.

My question is, is this normal or is it likely I do have something ‘wrong’? Thank you

You won't know until you have seen your GP. They can do a blood test and test your hormone levels.

@TheresNoFudgeHere, it could be hormonal, it could just be your natural hairiness.

Some women are just a bit hairy. Nothing wrong that.

Speak to your GP.

In your situation I would also get laser or IPL hair removal.

I was like you. IPL hair removal has been amazing and worth the money. Stop plucking and waxing immediately as the hairs just grow thinker and stronger. Pay for IPL. I've still got hair growth - but it's manageable by a quick shave now.

I have PCOS and my only symptom from that is excessive hairiness. You don't have to have all the symptoms.

Tigresswoods · 02/09/2024 05:10

I'd agree with @AbraAbraCadabra it does sound like PCOS.

I've had laser on certain areas & use veet regularly on others.

Women who don't have this issue simply won't understand.

I immediately thought PCOS, however see your GP as we don’t really know on here.

I am hairy. I do not have PCOS. It”s a pain to de-hair. And yes, it does sometimes leave me feeling very unfeminine.

It will be hormonal. My aunt had hair on her face that she use to shave daily. She came across some videos by Dr Berrg who suggested it was to do with high insulin levels impacting testosterone. She cut out all carbs completely and hair growth dramatically reduced. She’s had laser since and now she only has the odd strand of hair.
