hi
been prescribed cerazette(mini-pill), never tried the mini- pill before, am interested as to others experiences and side effects, particularly in relation to weight gain and spotting as had probs with both of these taking combined pill in past.... gp says weight gain unlikely but intrustions in packet say different... how have people got on with it?

I take it and also prescribe it a lot.

I love it- no periods after 2 months and no weight gain or spots. I haven't known many patients come back to me and complain about weight gain with it either- the likelihood is far less than standard mini-pills or combined pills.

Spotted continuously on it but that might just be me though.

I've been taking it for one month - no weight gain so far, but probably too early to tell, and I did have a period, but lighter than usual, and none of my usual 5 days of heavy spotting before period starts properly. Hurrah. (This was the reason i was prescribed it).
Also felt like I didn't really have PMT this month, which was a boon. I did feel a bit weird and wobbly (emotionally) during the first week, but it didn't last. And I had quite bad breast tenderness for a couple of weeks, but not so much in the pre-menstrual week, which was a bit odd.
My GP told me that any side-effects usually settle down after the first three months.

Blimey, 'words of wisdom' indeed!

I'm truly honoured

Just saw this in active convos, I won't post my experience here, but here is a link to a thread I started about Cerazette www.mumsnet.com/Talk/2330/397249?ts=1208461502155
Obviously some people are fine on it but please do check this out and watch out for it.

BAD. very, very bad.

bled again and again. full on, not just spotting.

mood swings. terrible, awful. my PND got many, many times worse.

my skin when to absolute hell and i am now permanently scarred due to huge cystic acne.

missymum · 17/04/2008 20:51

You're welcome - just don't want anyone else to have the same experience and not realise it could be linked to the pill.

emma1977 · 17/04/2008 21:15

With all contraceptive methods, there are some people who suit it fine and others who have a nightmare.

Any method that contains progestogens has the potential make depression worse in those who aleady suffer and very occasionally new depression. It is a recongnised side effect but still reasonably uncommon, thankfully.

expatinscotland · 17/04/2008 21:20

psychiatric consultant thought it would be okay for me. she'd already ruled out Depo and the implant for me because of my history of PND.

it was worth a try, but i needed to come off it because of the side effects.

my skin!

DH will be having the snip after this one is born, thankfully.

For when can you take time without any break? Thank you
