Hi

Does this look like canker sores, a lump appeared on Friday and then seemed to go away yesterday but these appeared last night. It's so painful I can't eat 😫

It could be herpes.

Itabsolutelyispossible · 25/08/2024 15:20

I don't know what a canker sore is.

Herpes simplex?

leafybrew · 25/08/2024 15:24

mouth ulcers

VeronicaCreepcheese · 25/08/2024 15:27

From the ways it's clustered, I'd suggest herpes; that said, it could be oral thrush, which can also cause lots of (agonising) little ulcers. I had it a few years ago and it was awful.

Is your tongue white? How do things taste? When I had it, it made everything taste really salty before the ulcers came in.

My mouth felt numb in that area on Friday (like as if I'd eaten something really hot and burned it, which I didn't) and then a lump appeared and now this. It's so painful I can't eat but I have been using a salt mouth wash which is easing it. Just worried it's a sign of something underlying health wise.

Not a medic but looks like a herpes virus to me. Please get it checked by a dentist or GP.

Pigeonqueen · 25/08/2024 20:40

That does not look like a typical canker sore. I would say herpes too, sorry. You need to get medical advice.

Achybreakyhip · 25/08/2024 20:43

Just in case it is herpes stay away from your partner until it heals over (unless he gave it to you which from it being in the roof of your mouth is likely 😬)

3kidsaremorethanenough · 25/08/2024 21:57

This is it now after spending the day doing salty mouth wash and using honey on it.

Thanks for the replies and advice. if it's not any better I'll get a gp appointment (dentist appointments are impossible to get here)

Am I wrong in thinking that this type of herpes is not an std infection (which would be a complete act of fiction for me at this present time) and more like cold sore virus type thing????

Cold sores are herpes and can be passed from mouth to genitals and vice versa.

floridaidea · 25/08/2024 23:30

If that's only on one side of your palate, it's probably shingles. Herpes Zoster.

3kidsaremorethanenough · 26/08/2024 09:55

Yes only on the left side of my palate. Feeling very off today shivery cold and dizzy. But the spots are clearing up. Have a gp appointment today at 4 so will see what they say

Thanks everyone

Worth seeing the Dr for that it's typical or herpes to make you unwell before/during an outbreak.

floridaidea · 26/08/2024 14:32

Primary herpetic gingivostomatitis doesn't present unilaterally. That is classic shingles OP.

3kidsaremorethanenough · 28/08/2024 19:27

Just thought I'd update so Dr said definitely not shingles/Herpes said it looked like a bad burn!!! Which I don't remember happening. Told me to use difflam spray and if doesn't go away to come back as it could be a bacterial infection. It has cleared up but still tender.

Thanks for all advice and replies
