18mo doing push-ups on chair edges - dangerous?

Hello all,

My 18mo DD has started doing push-ups or press-ups on the edges of chairs. She crosses her arms on the chair and lifts her legs off the ground and swings them around, giggling.

If the chair is low enough she'll go one step further and straighten her arms vertically like doing a push-up and lift herself up that way. No-one we know has even seen a baby do this. Her grandmother's chiropractor is quite alarmed and thinks she may dislocate her shoulder by carrying her body weight that way.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

D.

Has she been watching Sportacus by any chance?

Ds1 started this sort of thing at about that age. He now does a whole sort of breakdancing routine and his favourite TV watching position is doing a pushup between two chairs.

Have tried to stop him doing it but he loves it. Have given up. He's not hurt himself (badly) yet!

Mine used to do to even in the middle of sainsburys once, when I told them to stop they declared 'we are just doind are exercises like sportacus'. I am sure sainsburys must think my family is bonkers. Mine were alittle older 2 and 3 though

Thanks. That gives me some reassurance.
