Another sprained ankle post

I’ve read so many posts on here with people asking what to do about a sprained ankle but I’m still not sure whether I need to go and get mine checked out…

I stood awkwardly on some uneven paving and twisted my ankle. The pain was very intense as it was happening but manageable within a few minutes, I could walk with a limp.

I iced it but I never rested it as we was on our way out. My foot swelled pretty quickly

9 days later, the pain isn’t excruciating or unbearable but it’s there constantly. I’m laying down right now and can feel an ache in the side of my leg, an inch or two above the ankle. The area just below my ankle bone throbs constantly and I have an ache where the shin meets the foot.

It doesn’t hurt to lift my foot but it hurts and there feels like resistance if I try to tilt my foot down. If I push hard with my hand on the ligaments in the area where the shin meets the foot and under the ankle bone then I feel some slight pain but nothing too intense and no pain if I press down my leg.

I’ve read all the advice that says a sprain can take ages to heal so I’m inclined to believe it’s just that but it doesn’t feel normal to still be in constant pain for 10 days and not go and see a doctor to confirm it is actually a sprain.

So, do I need to keep doing what I’m doing or should I be going to urgent care?

It can take ages to heel, but do get it checked out, it’s probably not a break but you never know

I twisted my ankle about 5 years ago and it's never been the same since. It aches. Not in a way that affects my life, and only when I think about it, or when I'm in bed not thinking about anything else.

If you have a minor injuries place I’d pop in. Have a look at the Ottawa ankle rules as from what you’re describing I think you may score yourself an xray. And even if it’s not broken then advice on which bit exactly is damaged and what to do/physio is a very good idea, soft tissue injuries can be just as debilitating as fractures.
