We stayed at a premier inn for a couple of nights. Yesterday morning a mouse ran across in front of me at dining room. We told staff but they didn’t come and look or do anything that we could see, another customer reported seeing a mouse about 15 mins later, the waitress said she’d tell the duty manager but again no one came to look into it which gave me the feeling it wasn’t a suprise. Anyway I told reception and have submittted a complaint online but that takes 25 days to deal with. Around 6 to 7 hours after breakfast I started with diarrhoea. I don’t feel ill at all and it’s not really bad although I did have to get up four or five times during the night to use the loo. Are the two things connected or is this a coincidence. My mum is fine but she ate diff food to me. Im also of peri menopausal age and had come on the first time I had to go to the loo so it could be connected to that also. Even if it is the mouse I’m assuming there’s no much to do anyway as long as I’m not feeling ill just drink fluids ?

I should think you’ll be ok looking after yourself as if you have a stomach bug.

As the staff were that unfazed by two people reporting vermin to them it’s probably fair to say it happens a lot. Local councils monitor hygiene in restaurants and give ratings/ certificates. I’m not sure what department does it though. If I saw that I would definitely find out and report them though. The kitchen is probably filthy.

It may not be connected at all. Was the hotel in a rural area? I worked in a place (A Premier Inn as it happens) with a truly sparkling kitchen and all pest control measures in place, but the odd field mouse sneaking in, because we were surrounded by fields.

I saw a rat in a taverna in Greece (very rural) after we'd eaten. We were both fine.

Squeezetheday · 21/08/2024 13:12

Probably unconnected if your mum is fine, but definitely report the mouse to the local council or whoever handles the hygiene rating!

I doubt it's connected. Just because there was a mouse in the dining room it doesn't mean the kitchen was dirty

cariadlet · 21/08/2024 14:06

Unconnected.

I've had mice and rats in my house. Nothing to do with poor hygiene or lack of cleanliness. It didn't make me ill.

They get everywhere.

No it was in London right next to an airport and a tube station!!!

Probably headed I. From the tube station, there are plenty of mice down on the tracks!

WonderingWanda · 21/08/2024 15:53

Unlikely, more likely you'd picked up a bug from somewhere prior to staying, was this after your first night? If its an airport hotel there will be lots of people coming and going and you could easily catch something off a door handle.

Morph22010 · 21/08/2024 15:54

I’ve just checked and it was only inspected a couple of weeks ago and has 5 which is top rating. I’ve been better today so guess it’s just one of the those things

No it was after staying two nights. Saw mouse on final morning just before leaving. I am fine today anyway so can’t have been that bad a bug wherever I got it from

Likely you picked it up from somewhere on your travels, especially if you've been sightseeing and on crowded public transport. Glad to hear you are feeling better now.

Hoppinggreen · 21/08/2024 16:02

I have seen mice in places they shouldnt be and I have had an upset stomach but never in the same 24 hours so I doubt its connected

nosleepforme · 21/08/2024 16:04

That’s disgusting, I’d report the mouse just because they didn’t care!
