My mum (aged 82 , normally very active) hurt her knee at exercise class last week, since this she went quickly downhill, no appetite & staying in bed. So after falling yesterday she is in hospital(had morphine) waiting for knee to be cleaned out via keyhole this afternoon (as knee is infected). Hospital want to trace the source of infection as bug in knee is unusual, so Mum also having an ultrasound on heart. Do any medical people have experience and knowledge around this please? Do people generally recover well, I will look after her and am wondering what to expect. Please excuse any vagueness I'm not medically trained, thank you.

Not medically trained but experience with the elderly and frail.

There is no way of predicting this but a lot will depend on her background levels of activity and health, and her willingness to take physio seriously. As she was at an exercise class when it happened I'm guessing there's a good chance she is pretty fit and active, which bodes well.

What I would advise is once it's all done and she's on the road to recovery if the NHS physio offered is slow or sparse then splash the cash and go private if you can.
