dh goes every 2 years

i only ever hear about them for men - probably as they're more susceptible to heart conditions i imagine

but dh mentioned he thought it would be a good idea to have me MOT'd too

i have one every year through bupa - it's a work thing. Would recommend, certainly highlights potential issues before they become severe.

Had one last year at Nuffield. You can have different levels and options. Mine was a Well Woman type and usually included a smear but I swapped it for a mammogram as had had a smear done less than a year before. Next level up also included a stress test on a treadmill.

My previous GP and our new one does very basic checks once you hit 40 or so.

Height, weight, BP, lung capacity, blood test for cholesterol, liver and kidney function, thyroid etc,

sorry, missed the private bit. I was referring to NHS doctor.

I worked for a GP who did them. Private health insurance covers some of it if not all.

You would be surprised what can be picked up, eg diabetes. When we get symptoms of things sometimes it can be 'too late' and damage can be done but by having a health check can help prevent this.

I had gestational diabetes and have my blood tested yearly. My GP always tests for everything as well as blood sugar levels. It puts my mind at rest.
