Amitriptyline for IBS - has anyone tried this?

My decades long IBS has been getting so much worse over the years and it has completely taken over my life. Despite endless gastro tests, all seems ok and it does appear to be a functional issue (I also have functional dyspepsia so have the joys of daily upper and lower issues).

There is literally nothing that I have not tried in order to gain some control over my bowels but they continue to be totally unpredictable and that causes me a huge amount of anxiety which is not helping. I have frequent loose stools which can catch me unawares at the worst of times but I can also have a few days per month of constipation, I experience excessive gurgling, growling, rumblings, am gassy, nauseated a lot of the time and plain miserable and because eating triggers it all off, I can not even enjoy food, eating out or socialising.

I am under a dietician and am careful with my food and drink intake etc. I listen to gut directed hypnotherapy every day and meditate but still I suffer.

One med I haven't really tried is Amitriptyline and I think it is now time to give it some serious thought as I know it can help. I also have terrible visceral hypersensitivity and know this med can help dampen that sensation down.

Has anyone had experience of this drug? Has it helped you at all?

I am getting rather desperate tbh as I currently am all consumed by my horrible, evil guts.
