long story cut short - DS had a chest infection about a month ago but i knew something was wrong and went to gp three times before they agreed. he kept having temps over 39degrees and i thought it was his chest as i could feel it but they said it was clear. in the end they gave him 5days of amoxicillin which cleared everything up. the gp sent away a urine sample when they were checking him

anway today i have a letter from the surgery saying there was blood in his urine and and they want to repeat the test and could i make an appointment. DS is fine, urine doesnt smell strong, no obvious signs of blood in his nappy, urine is clear straw colour.

have read the posts about crystals in huggies making nappy look like blood but could that also affect a urinalysis? i used the pouch thing you stick on him to collect it.

am having a bit of a panic and the GP wont discuss anything over the phone

I often get blood in my urine when i have a UTI. It could be something like that.

Are you seeing the GP today to discuss the results?

fledtoscotland · 16/04/2008 10:24

the letter said it wasnt a uti as there was no protein just blood cells. i cant make an appointment until after another sample has been sent away and the results back so am going down to surgery to collect the pouch and bottle to get the sample tonight and will drop it back down tomorrow. because of the weekend, i wont get to discuss it with the GP til monday.

DS is absolutly fine but what bugs me is that i asked a couple of weeks ago and the receptionist said the results were back and all was OK. it has taken them 4 weeks to write to me

Poor you Surely they realise you will beworried. The least they could do is talk to you about this rather than making you wait again. I understand that they can't tell you what (is anything) is wrong without further tests but its unfair to just leave you hanging like this

Try to take comfort in the fact your ds seems well. Mistakes do get made with testing sometimes. I expect they want to do a second test just to be on the safe side.
