Sciatica or something else?

For the past couple of weeks I have had pain going down the back of both legs. It more of a discomfort than actual pain but it is constant. It feels like when you have over used muscles and they ache afterwards. The only time it is better is when I’m walking. Is it possible I could have strained the muscles in both legs without realising or does this sound like sciatica?

I think sciatica is more of a sharp pain. Maybe you're walking too much ?

I have had sciatica a couple of times,it’s usually just one side in my experience. And yes a sharp pain.

With sciatica there is often some numbness and tingling as well. Do you have that?
Simple muscle soreness from activity wouldn't last for weeks like that, unless you were re-straining them over and over. I'd get it checked out.

Be careful with it being both legs... if you loose feeling in both sets of toes you need to seek medical attention fast.

If it's equal in both sides it doesn't sound like sciatica to me... not like mine anyway for what that's worth. Sciatica is more a sharp running pain on either the outside or inside of your leg rather than the back I think too.

How old are you? Fluctuating hormones can cause muscle pain.

I’m 54 and it’s definitely not a sharp pain. It’s like a dull ache down the back of both legs. I’ve been out today doing a lot of walking and it feels less severe. However last night watching tv it felt quite bothersome and when I wake up in the mornings. I will monitor it and meanwhile go walking a lot and take ibuprofen when it gets bad. Thank you all for your help - much appreciated.

Are you taking statins ? Some can cause muscle pain

Richardchamberlainrocks · 14/08/2024 17:25

No statins but I have started on high blood pressure tablets. I’m off to check the PIL.
