ds2 has only ever had diarrhea when a toddler, he's now 9. so sorry if this sounds thick!

tonight he has gone running off to the loo 3 times in the last 1.5 hours and seems to have diarrhea but is otherwise o.k

does this mean he has a bug of some sort and should stay home from school tomorrow , or is it not a problem?

he is going to bed now so am hoping for the best!

24 hours for diarrhoea (I can never spell the bloody word). After it stops though. I'm sure other mums may do things differently.

so, this 3 times to the toilet actually DOES warrant a day off then ? blardy nora, he'll be pleased about that!

was it something he ate

avenanap · 15/04/2008 19:59

Just incase it's someting he can pass on. School's tend to not like it very much if you take them in ill.

cheeryface · 15/04/2008 20:05

no, i wouldn't take him in ill. He has a lowered immune system and it really annoys me when other people do that.

i wasn't sure because he seems fine and well otherwise. He was playing outside and had to come in for the toilet X 3 and is now laughing in bed!

Ohh, I hate this aswell. ds caught chickenpox from a child at nursery who was taken in ill . He may have just eaten something that has not agreed with him, if you feel that he's ill, keep him off. If not, it's down to you. Don't tell the school though.

LIZS · 15/04/2008 20:21

I'd say it is more likely something he has eaten if he is otherwise fine. Lots of fruit or apple juice ?

winnie76winnie · 15/04/2008 20:26

Officially 48 hours off at our school, but if you think he's otherwise fine, I think its a judgement call

gingerninja · 15/04/2008 20:27

If it's a gastro type bug I think they are still contagious for 48 hrs after last episode of diarrhoea (sp). FWIW, we had all had gastroenteritis last week which started with diarrhoea (DD actually had d for about 4 days) and then went on to include fevers and feeling really rotten so just keep an eye on him (although Dr said we had to just ride it out as not much worth taking)
