Spleen enlarged - cause cannot be found

Hi

wondered if anyone can help on routine exam 2 years ago it was found I have a slightly enlarged spleen

ultrasound 1 - 13cm
ultrasound 2 - 14.5cm this was a year later
ultrasound 3 - 17cm this was in Jan

all bloods normal - bone marrow biopsy fine also had a autoimmune panel or bloods done which were fine.

have bowel issues so performed a stool sample and fit test - normal

no cause can be found but I’m in a lot of discomfort - pain in my ribs and stomach everyday which can sometimes be sharp stabbing pain and flare ups of bowel issues -

i also last year began with angiodema and hives all over my body this has calmed down but I do have our breaks of itchy rashes each day that last a few minutes then go.

the follow ups from the NHS are rare and I have to push for follow up appointments I feel if I didn’t I would just be forgotten.

has anyone shared a similar issue and can help shed some light on what this could be.

Hello. I'm in the same situation. Had it now for 3-4 years and gets slightly bigger with every scan. They said to just keep an eye on it. I've been referred to Rheumatology for other issues and symptoms and wondering if this could be connected.

Do you regularly take any medication?

I do but nothing attributed to my enlarged spleen. Like you, they said it was nothing to worry about and to monitor....but WHY is it getting bigger?

I only ask as regular use of Ibuprofen/naproxen for me resulted in an enlarged spleen over a period of around 2 months when I broke my leg.

I went for an ultrasound of my stomach for an unrelated issue and the consultant nearly fell off his chair when he saw the results and thought I had cancer. Turns out my reliance on pain killers had resulted in an enlarged spleen.

im mainly frustrated as im in so much discomfort can lie or sit comfortably.
And wake up in the night in pain.

Just want it taken out at this point

I’m in the same boat. Abdominal pain, an enlarged spleen that’s tender but tests normal. Nobody seems bothered, but it isn’t normal and must be happening for a reason. It’s a bit worrying.

Can I ask what your pain feels like? I have an ultrasound tomorrow and worried I have an enlarged spleen. Symptoms started 2 weeks ago.

Have you had Liver Function Tests? I suppose you have, just mentioning it as some liver issues can cause enlargement of spleen.

The pain is in my left ribs and radiates towards my shoulder blade and shoulder. Can feel like a sharp stabbing pain sometimes.
mostly a dull ache that never goes away. Hope your scan is okay!

I have had all the tests under the sun. Full blood counts liver kidneys auto immune. Was wondering if bowel related at one point due to some other issues I was having.
everything comes up normal. As I also suffer with hives and angiodemia I was sent to an allergy specialist who didn’t even see the point in doing allergy testing. She told me it was 100% my immune system attacking it self so ran a full auto immune panel of testing which all came back fine. I was advised they’d send me to an immune specialist but the hospital forgot to do my referral until I chased it 6 months later so I’m now back down at the bottom of the list
