Child has HUGE swollen lymph nodes

Hi all, have posted on children’s health but only 1 response so posting here hoping for more traffic.

really long story short 1st July I noticed a really big swollen lymph node on my 2yo neck. GP said all of his glands were up so it’ll be a virus and go back down. Come back in 2 weeks.
A few days later he came down with what seemed like tonsillitis and all of the glands swelled to a similar size, really painful, and he could hardly move his neck. Looked like glandular fever or mumps. GP prescribed antibiotics. All other symptoms went but swollen lumps remained.
back and forward to GP and finally got a blood test which showed slightly low iron and high platelets but these are easily explained and Dr wasn’t concerned but he referred him to oncology as he was worried about missing a cancer 😨 still waiting for appt. Have chased but told to wait for letter.

So nearly 6 weeks on from the initial lump it’s still swollen and the one next to it almost like two small golf balls in the side of his neck. I think there’s soft tissue swelling around the actual lymph nodes. Still looks like mumps. The other side is swollen and goes up and down daily but nothing like that side.

I’ve seen a private ENT consultant who doesn’t know what it is but has referred for scan although it’s in a couple of weeks.

He’s absolutely fine otherwise.

I’m beside myself with worry, can anyone offer any reassurance? Please no scary stories 🙏
