Anyone up? I’m on holiday and we are all poorly and I just want to go home 😭

On our first family holiday for years and it’s all gone to shit.

My youngest was extremely poorly with sickness and diarrhoea, so much that we had to get a doctor to the hotel which cost us a fortune (which we obviously don’t mind paying as it’s our child)

now i have diarrhoea which started last night and it’s still going.

any words of wisdom/advice to help me through this? I feel awful and the only place i want to be right now is home

Sorry to hear this. Terrible luck when on holiday. Hopefully it passes soon and you manage to enjoy some of the trip.
Currently awake staring at my youngest waiting for him to be sick again. Nothing too dramatic but not nice seeing him unwell. We booked a family ticket to a waterpark a few hours ago too!

PoopedAndScooped · 09/08/2024 03:50

Oh gosh - Im sorry

Just all try keep your fluids up

You should be able to claim for the doctor's visit on the travel insurance.

Worstholidayah · 09/08/2024 03:59

@GodLovesATrier aww no, hope your little one gets better soon. It’s awful knowing they are going to be sick again and just waiting for it. We also booked tickets to a water park! Currently emailing TUI to see if we are able to change dates for it but I’m not hopeful.

@PoopedAndScooped thank you, I’m trying. I also have a massive sickness phobia! So I’m scared to move. Going to ask my husband to pop out this morning and find me some anti sickness tablets from the chemist.

@saveforthat yes I will look into that when we get home. Doctor has left a medical report we can use for insurance

My words of wisdom are....better out than in.
Hopefully it will all pass soon and the family holiday will end on a high note. Wishing you all well.

1AngelicFruitCake · 09/08/2024 04:22

Hopefully you’re over the worst of it nearly time for everyone to get up everything seems better in daytime x

Greentreesandbushes · 09/08/2024 04:44

Get some rehydration sachets. Call insurance helpline

Worstholidayah · 09/08/2024 05:48

@TortolaParadise yes I agree, thank you. We leave on Monday so I really hope it’s over and done before then and nobody else catches it.

@1AngelicFruitCake love your positivity but I’m struggling to be positive considering I’ve been on the toilet 4 times in the last 6 hours 😂

@Greentreesandbushes we actually have rehydration sachets with us so will make one once the the kids are up so I don’t waken them!

Please don't take anti-sickness or anything to stop your bowels; your body is getting rid of a toxin/bacteria/something(!) for a reason - don't stop that process.

flapjackfairy · 09/08/2024 07:30

Well I appreciated your pun..that it has all gone to shit !

it is so annoying when everyone gets ill at the wrong time . Esp after you have looked forward to it for a long time . Sorry you are feeling so rough and hopefully it will be a 24 hr thing and you can get back to enjoying yourselves.

I agree, let it all out. Just keep drinking.

MinnieCauldwell · 09/08/2024 07:37

Water, water, and more water. Flush it out. I have travelled ablot and experienced this a few times. I only take something like Immodium if i need to get on a flight. It only delays the inevitable.
Good luck, probably passes in 24 hours

FriendsDrinkBook · 09/08/2024 07:40

This happened to us a couple of years ago. It was awful. We ended up having to stay in our accommodation and wished the time away until we could travel home. We can laugh about it now , but I still feel annoyed that we saved , packed and travelled for that experience.

I hope you all feel well enough to enjoy at least some of your holiday op , and that you get through the journey home okay.

oakleaffy · 09/08/2024 07:52

@Worstholidayah I have had anti emetics prescribed {For vertigo}

They don't work on me for sickness bugs :(

FAR better out than in, Rehydration salts are what you need for your child and you -Orange and lemon flavours aren't too heinous.

I too am an emetophobe- it's so wretched feeling nauseated.

Hope it passes off- but you don't want to be at a waterpark with D&V, as it will probably spread easily.

Hope TUI change the dates for you.

Cattyisbatty · 09/08/2024 08:00

Poor you. I had diarrhoea on our holiday as well along with awful stomach cramps and could barely face food, but I was drinking water. Thankfully this was mainly on the penultimate day and so I came back to the hotel while the others went out and about (the evening was the worse). Dh had to get Imodium and I totally recommend it if you need to bung yourself up for a couple of days. Also make sure you’re hydrated. I had to take it to travel home and couldn’t wait to get in my bed! I’m sure it was a bug rather than food poisoning as I’ve had travellers diarrhoea which was more vicious but didn’t last as long.
Hope you all feel better soon.

itsgettingweird · 09/08/2024 08:02

It's better out than in.

Then when settled stick to the BRAT diet and very plain foods.

Eat little bit often to allow your stomach and bowels time to accept the food.

Keep very rehydrated.

But yes - it's literally shit when this happens on holiday.

oakleaffy · 09/08/2024 08:03

@Worstholidayah Badminton Horse Trials is a yearly thing I REALLY look forward to- I save up to buy stuff at the wonderful stalls there.

This year, getting ready to leave to stay at my friend's who lives nearby, I felt headachey and -BOOM the start of an horrendous really severe vomiting bug.

I was too ill to phone friend, texted her she replied and said ''You must be really ill to miss Badminton''- I was just in bed with a bucket while the sun shone and others were having fun!

As a slight coincidence...I was specifically after a silver charm by a specific jeweller who has a stall there, after I lost one I'd bought from her 25 yrs ago.

A charity I follow a few months later had the exact design of the item I lost - hallmarked to 20 years ago at half the price -literally unworn.
Was delighted.

DoesthislookgoodOnMe · 09/08/2024 08:19

Practical advice is get your H to get some bleach and anti bac wipes. Every time someone uses the bathroom it needs to be disinfected to avoid anyone else getting it.

Kitkat1523 · 09/08/2024 08:22

No anti diarrhoea tablets OP …..they will just prolong any infection …..just keep drinking water

HowIrresponsible · 09/08/2024 08:23

Where are you?

As everyone said water and more water and possibly diluted fruit juice.

4 times is 6 hours isn't that bad. That's every hour and a half - I once couldn't get out of the bathroom 🙃 on holiday

sashh · 09/08/2024 10:21

Get some bottled water OP.

Eve when water is perfectly fine to drink it can upset you if you are not used to it.

When I was a kid my grandad would visit us if he needed to 'go' and couldn't. A cup of tea with out tap water sorted him right out.

I partially agree with not taking anything to stop it but I think sometimes you need to.

Get some loperamide, even if you just use it for the journey home.

Worstholidayah · 09/08/2024 16:37

Thanks all! Diarrhoea has thankfully stopped and I haven’t been sick.

Hopefully no more issues before we go home!
