Erect big toe!

Not sure what happened to me last night but I was woken by a really painful foot, took me a while to realise that the pain was from where my big toe joins my foot. Bizarrely when I put the light on I could see that my big toe was sticking up at a right angle to my foot, it took 20 minutes of rubbing to get it back to a normal position, and the area is still painful today.

I don't wear heels and haven't damaged it in any way so I'm at a loss to know what's going on. Does anyone have any experience of this? And how can I stop it happening again?

You do know most men can't rub away for 20 mins.... Unless you are a woman op you are very special!!

@Sunshineafterthehail not sure what you're getting at, I'm not male and I've a painful toe/foot.

Most likely to be cramp. My toes can do all sorts of weird contortions, and it's usually at night (although they have been known to go a bit doolally when I'm having reflexology - awkward!)

Cramp - or if it was hot and red/swollen, it could be a first presentation of gout.

Is cramp. I sometimes get it when I'm awake and it's the strangest feeling when it's trying to rise up!!

Cramp! Happens to me, Cramp in your toes is a special kind of torture. Next time try and walk, sometimes helps.

fourfootelevenandabit · 06/08/2024 13:05

It's a form of cramp. My husband gets it and I've had it a couple of times, as well. It's a very odd sensation as until it passes, you can't get the toe to stay down in its normal position.

Lavendersquare · 06/08/2024 16:39

Thanks for the replies, cramp seems to be the consensus and does make sense, it was a very weird sensation like my toe was fighting against being flat. Hopefully it won't happen again.

There wasn't anything humourous about your post though. It just didn't make sense.
