Full body aching & stiffness after walking/driving/anything!

I've been struggling for a few years with this, I think it's got worse since covid (when my physical fitness left and I've struggled to get it back).

After doing ANYTHING that's not sitting around, I get completely exhausted - not at the time but once I stop. I also get really stiff (even if just standing around) & struggle to take off shoes/socks & struggle to move/get up once I've sat down.

I don't know if it's a fitness thing as I'm fine while I'm up and about, just afterwards my body seems to seize up!

Anyone have similar/any advice?

Yes. Don't know why but it's really annoying.

StickerSwap · 03/08/2024 20:14

Thanks @elliejjtiny - it really is annoying! What do you do to manage it?

Are you perimenopausal? That's when this hit for me. Got better with HRT, and came back when I briefly stopped.

Long covid?
Have you been to a long Covid clinic?
My daughter ( only age 32) is like this..
Covid has given her POtS.
Fibromyalgia ( the trauma).
Heart stop .

This sounds like Post Exertional Malaise. Especially as it came on after Covid.

Long Covid hits in various ways. Exhaustion after exercise is one.

Cut your exercise amounts until you find your energy envelope. Pushing like this could make it worse or lead to CFS.

Oestrogen could be the problem. I used to get terrible aches even after just going for a walk. If I miss my HRT now the aches start to come back.

I'm in pain like this all the time and I'm on HRT.

Yes, it's hypermobility, menopause, underactive thyroid and fibromyalgia for me. All have some similar symptoms so not sure which is causing what problems.

Thanks all
I'm on HRT but it doesn't really help much with this. Dr won't adjust HRT dose or change it as I have other risk factors.

Long covid treatment around here is limited to those who've had extreme symptoms (gone from marathon running to can't get out of bed).

It's not an issue of moderating exercising to the right amount unfortunately. Even a walk around the city centre /the shops, standing around while kids do sport etc has the same effect.

I've wondered about fibromyalgia & CF but even with a diagnosis there's not much that can be done, is there?

I'm sorry so many of us have this - it's really annoying!

Yeah, I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hypermobility) and I always suffer after doing any sort of exercise. It feels fine in the moment and only later do I realise I've overdone it.

Cantbebotheredwithausername · 03/08/2024 20:48

I have the same. I've had chronic mograines for years, and probably some form of undiagnosed mild(-ish) me/cfs, too. The stiffness is new, and it feels a bit weird. I started doing some more strength training, and thought it might've been simple muscle soreness due to exercise, but it got even worse when I took a break from exercising to go on vacation. I've always been getting migraines and fatigue for days if I do strenuouss exercise, but never the stiffness all over, like my spine just doesn't bend normally.

I’m under the Chronic Fatigue clinic.

Theyre advice is look at what you have to do and do a third of it. This includes things like shopping, kids sports etc. Whenever you do an activity rest before and after it.

If you keep pushing through it will get worse.( bitter experience)

Same. It’s getting worse as I get older, wasn’t really an issue until my mid 40s. I’m deteriorating rapidly sadly.
