Post coital bleeding

I am wondering what people do about post coital bleeding, I'm presuming it's quite common? I'm 38 and have never had this before however DH and I had sex yesterday and I had quite a bit of bright red spotting immediately after which is still going but has faded to a yellowish colour now. It's not heavy and I'm definitely not pregnant, is this a wait and see kind of thing or do I need to see a GP if it happens again?

Mine was due to an ectropian on my cervix. Google it. Have you had a smear recently?

Thanks @GG1986 my last one was about 3 years ago and there was no hpv so no further testing but of course everything must have looked ok at the time.

Yes, any unexpected bleeding needs to be investigated.
Mine was a polyp, it took the GP about 5 minutes to remember and send of for testing. All clear.

Def go to GP. You’ll get a transvaginal scan and a swab. I had a uterine polyp discovered that way. Could be loads of reasons inc thrush (I also had that!).

Book yourself a GP appointment, or search for a sexual health clinic near you.

I started to get spotting of blood after sex, but I did also feel pain (I can’t recall the pain, but I do recall telling a Dr it felt like sandpaper). My smear was also clear (no HPV). The cause of mine was changes in cells on my cervix (CIN3) which had to be removed.
