FIL has TB

We just found out my FIL has TB. We’ve seen him probably 4 times between when he became unwell and when they confirmed he definitely has TB. We have no clue where he could have caught it!

I’m worried as I’m currently 27 weeks pregnant and have a 3 year old. I have read that you usually catch it from long term exposure or if someone with TB coughs/sneezes in close proximity to you. We have only ever been around him for a few hours at a time in a well ventilated room but it’s still worrying me! Especially as myself and my son would be more vulnerable. Luckily we have both had our BCG vaccination.

I am going to contact our GP and midwife next week to ask for some advice. But has anyone had a similar experience?

What has your FIL told his treating team, is he in hospital? They should be able to advise you as to the correct course of action regards next steps, via public health etc. Get him to tell his medical team he has a pregnant DIL as a possible exposure contact what should she do etc. And you should tell your midwife

It is increasingly common. I have had it in my tutorgroup repeatedly in recent years. You will need to be tested, and then take it from there.
