Mole removal

My mum has had a mole that was changing. Went to gp who said they would refer for urgent appointment. Due to the gp forgetting to actually send the referral letter, and my mum massively complained, she got a call today from the hospital saying mole looked suspicious, albeit doesn't mean it's cancerous, but they want to remove it. They said it would be 6 weeks. Does this seem quite a wait? I know there is the 2 week to be seen if suspected cancer(which this is) but is that just for the initial call? Should she be getting it removed within 2 weeks? Just wondering what other people have had to wait from being told mole needs to be removed to it actually been taken off.

Thanks!

It’s usually an initial appointment within 2 weeks.
They then look at it and arrange a date for removal, although they may do a biopsy at that initial appointment but not always. Patients are often just given a date to come back for biopsy or removal.

I know someone who waited 12 week as this was about a year after covid and the waiting's lists had risen.

At least the waiting is slowing going down

I waited about 4 weeks for mine to be removed after the initial appointment. Then waited another 4 weeks for the results - luckily benign.

Where abouts are you? And when was this? Trying to work out before I ring if I will be fobbed off for my mam. Just want it looked at sooner.
