Hi all. I’m 25 years old and this started as a spot underneath my breast but has now grown slightly bigger and is hard and painful to touch. It now has a dark centre, apologies pictures aren’t great but I’m supposed to be asleep for work tomorrow and I’m panicking. Please can anyone help?

Is it possible your underwire has pinched or chafed your breast? The spot is right on what looks like a typical underwire mark and I have had similar myself when I changed to a new style of bra and wasn't lifting my breast fully into the cup.

It scared the bejasus out of me, took ages to go (in fact a month on and the mark is still there) and the dark centre was actually blood where it had been pinched (painlessly though, didn't feel a thing). Of course it may be something more serious, and as with anything unusual with breasts if you are worried you should get in touch with your doctor, to make sure.

MrsBrightsidde · 01/08/2024 22:52

How long has it been there? It looks like a spot coming to a head.

Thatcat · 01/08/2024 23:00

It could be an accessory nipple (basically a third nipple)

Pretty common. They can become more pronounced as you get older.
worth checking if there is another one under the other boob? It could be slightly smaller, but roughly in a symmetrical place. If yes, I’d say that’s what it is.

Dont risk it tho - go to GP

CassieMaddox · 01/08/2024 23:05

Go to the doctor.
But to put your mind at rest it looks like dermatofibromas I have on my legs. Harmless. I'm not a doctor so get it checked out but don't panic

DancingFerret · 01/08/2024 23:09

It looks like a blackhead is forming, especially as it's right on your bra line and that area gets very hot and sweaty, especially in the summer. That said, it would be wise to have it checked by a doctor.

Emmelina · 01/08/2024 23:15

Maybe your bra has chafed a bit, or could you have been bitten by something? I'm covered in bites at the moment with it being so hot! It may pop in a day or two with a little encouragement in the shower.

iwillgetbackupagain · 01/08/2024 23:16

Looks like a blackhead or a spot that's ready to be poked with a sterile pin and squeezed Grin

It doesn't look sinister but always get these things checked out.

TheresNoFudgeHere · 01/08/2024 23:17

Thank you so much for the quick replies. It started as a spot maybe 1.5 months ago - I’ve attached a picture of what it looked like then.

I am making a GP appointment tomorrow but I’m terrified!
Just to say, it is right on the bra line and I tend to only wear sports bras which don’t really provide that support in lifting the boob up, so I do wonder about that.

A cyst perhaps ?

ilovepixie · 01/08/2024 23:21

I get cysts which start off looking like that.

TheresNoFudgeHere · 02/08/2024 10:28

I’ve made a GP appointment but the earliest they can see me is 12th August 🙁

It looks like a spot/cyst

Papergirl1968 · 02/08/2024 11:02

I had a cyst that looked similar to yours and was like a hard pea. The GP got me in on the same day and reassured me it was nothing to worry about.
Mine burst on Christmas Day and needed a course of antibiotics.
I’m a GP receptionist and would push for an earlier appointment, just to put your mind at rest. If your practice has an advanced nurse they might be able to see you.
Breast lumps should always be checked out ASAP so they really should be finding you a slot. It might be worth contacting them via their website as a GP should pick that up and will hopefully tell the receptionist to fit you in.

LizzieBet14 · 02/08/2024 12:21

I had something similar in my armpit that was hard, painful and itchy. The nurse at my GPs diagnosed a fungal infection and prescribed cream. Maybe yours could be something similar?

Gen888 · 02/08/2024 22:28

Looks more like a cyst. I had something similar to yours, but behind one of my ear and top of my head during Covid and I didn't go to the DR. It went away on its own. Best to check it out and see a GP for answers. If you are sensitive to certain fabric, change your bras. Take care.

TheresNoFudgeHere · 04/08/2024 15:17

Hi all, updating today as the pain has much decreased and swelling gone down, it appears to have popped. I’ve been inspecting it and there is a tiny amount of blood/pus coming out, but seems much calmer than it was before.
Should I still keep the GP app or is it fine now? It’s more the location that was worrying me than anything

OP posts:
Papergirl1968 · 04/08/2024 15:22

Keep it - or ideally try to get it brought forward - as you may need antibiotics.

seensome · 04/08/2024 15:27

I wouldn't personally keep the appointment, it's popped, you just need to keep it very clean, no touching, perhaps don't wear a bra for a few days until it's healed, wear a camisole or non wired bra

Ariela · 04/08/2024 15:32

For peace of mind I'd keep the appointment sitting there for a few days, on the basis if you do need antibiotics you have the appointment . It's also easier to cancel an appointment by ringing mid week than by ringing on a Monday.

TheresNoFudgeHere · 02/09/2024 11:34

I just wanted to update this thread for anyone else who might stumble upon it.
I still have a small hard lump and the dark centre of the spot there. I’ve been to the GP and she’s said it’s very likely a breast abscess I had, as it had previously popped. She says the small lump is likely just the remains of it, however that it could well form again and I may need antibiotics.

So relieved to be given a clean bill of health as I do think it’s very worrying to have things like this on the breast!

That’s great. Must be such a relief.

Wati · 15/01/2025 21:51

I have the same thing. Thanks for sharing!
