Bite infection

Hello,

I've been to the pharmacy and got antibiotics, however any ideas what this is?
It started as a bite and over the last 3 days it's turned like this. The skin is red and warm and It's painful.

As I went to pharmacy and not dr I didn't actually get to the bottom of what it could be.

Any ideas?

I'd go back to the pharmacist and get them to take another look. They may decide to send you to a walk-in centre or make an appointment at your GP surgery. Bites can turn really nasty and they usually take them fairly seriously.

They've given me a 5 day course of antibiotics so I'm hoping that helps! But dr wouldn't see me because I didn't call at 8 this morning

Spider bite? False widow typically.

Ruddy typical. Can you call at 8 tomorrow? Maybe you can see a practice nurse instead of a GP.

Are you taking anti histamine?

My DC has just been confirmed with Lymes after being bitten by a tick in last fortnight. Your bite looks completely different. However, if no progress and it doesn’t feel better fast I’d head for GP. Two of the 3 chemists recognised my DC’s bite.

Mum5net · 29/07/2024 21:16

My DC also felt flu ish and has chills tiredness and headaches. The bite was like a bullseye on a dartboard, with coloured rings. Hope yours resolves soon, Op. Don’t take any chances.

Ducksurprise · 29/07/2024 21:17

In which case you need anti histamine. Every day until it goes down. I'm surprised the pharmacy didn't offer it. They are cheap in supermarkets.

Source not a doctor but a farmer who is bitten by everything

Yeh I'll deffo go back if the antibiotics don't help! Just worrying me now because the red ring seems to be spreading

They did recommend antihistamine cream if it's itchy but it isn't!
I've got some at home though so will try taking that too!

Thank you

If you are worried the redness is spreading, draw a line to mark where it is now and you will see if it changes. Then you will have an idea if it is getting worse.

MrsKnob · 29/07/2024 22:03

I've seen a false widow bite and this looks just like it.

I did a line before bed and thankfully it hasn't spread overnight! I think the antibiotics may be kicking in!!

Funnily enough I did find a few in the house last year and now I'm thinking we have a nest😫

Definitely looks like a spider bite - the open scabby bit in the middle is typical. Just keep an eye that the red area around it isn't spreading.

Yeah! Luckily it hasn't spread since antibiotics so I think it's on the mend!!
