Period clots !!?

Every month I have clots and usually my periods heavy, can’t wear normal thin pads, I usually wear tena ladies as they absorb slightly better, but, I can literally feel them coming out of me, it’s gross. I’m waiting on bloods to check for ovarian cancer (precautionary) as I’ve been spotting between periods, and bleeding after sex so need an ultrasound too, my cervix looks nice and healthy, so now I’m just wondering what it could actually be! I’ve added an image which is pretty gross but just for reference. And I’ll be showing the gyno, they can also be bigger than this 🤢! Any ideas? Thank you x

No idea but I have the same too. Sometimes they are like golf ball sized. I have endometriosis though; unsure if that is the reason! Have you been given any meds to help? I was offered but didn't like the side effects

I thought this was normal. Are the clots new? I've always had them.

Favouritefruits · 28/07/2024 20:20

That’s normal, well it is for me and has been for the past 25years. I wouldn’t be concerned. I hope this puts your mind at ease.

Hey no never been given meds, I’ve had clots the size of my palm before and the gp said as long as I aren’t haemorrhaging it’s fine!! I have them every month, but I know when ones coming as I get cramps, I’ve just passed 2 more in the space of half an hour, and I can feel another one coming. I know for most people it’s very normal but it just makes me feel disgusting especially when I’m at work and have to change every hour and half, I can’t wear tampons they give me such bad cramps x

I use to get palm size clots as a teenager and in my early 20s. I went to the doctor and she laughed at me and told me it was normal. When I couldn't get pregnant I was diagnosed with PCOS. Since having my daughter my periods are much lighter, what I would consider "normal" and I never get clots. There needs to be much better research into menstrual health and less gaslighting!

They seem to scare you as to what is normal and what isn’t! Yet when you ask if it’s ’normal’ for clots to be falling out of you every half an hour with cramps they just disregard you! They really should be more research into it, I didn’t think I’d be having a Ca125 blood test at the age of 29, and let’s hope and pray it’s nothing sinister after I’ve been to doctors a few times about my periods and they just make me feel an idiot ! x

When I had fibroids I was passing clots the size of my palm.

Haggisfish3 · 28/07/2024 21:06

I had similar clots and had a fibroid and a polyp. I would push for an ultrasound to investigate if there is something like that. I had polyp removed and mirena coil put in and it’s been life changing in terms of periods settling down .

I’m currently waiting for an internal ultrasound, my periods have caused me to have anaemia too, every time my iron level goes up and the meds stop I end up back at square one again, and all a gp tells me to do is go on birth control but the side effects for me are even worse than having a period x

Are your periods heavy all the time? Years? Check with your doc and Gynae clinic or hospital? I was anaemic,so I had to take iron supplements because of my heavy bleeding. I have fibroids and some cysts, but not big. GP say not to worry. Also Perimenopause, so my periods will be up and down. There are tablets you can take or the mirena coil, this make your bleeding and clots less.
