Breathless after chest infection

I finished my antibiotics for a chest infection on 5th July, and I am still coughing and very breathless. I can't walk more than about 100 yards before I have to stop and get my breath back.
I have a GP appointment next week, but I am wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and if so, how long did it take for your breathing to get back to normal?

It can take a while to get back to normal. I am 8 weeks post pneumonia (very bad and hospitalised) but nowhere near normal breathing. Walking is OK for distance now but not at my previous pace. Any more vigorous cardio exercise is not really feasible yet. Assuming your blood oxygen is OK (have you checked with an oximeter?) and the GP confirms you can exercise I would have thought you just need to keep walking as much as you can to build up stamina. Hope you feel better soon.
