Trigeminal Neuralgia

I have started having a flair up today of my trigeminal Neuralgia. I have restarted the carbamazapine but that doesn't relieve it very quickly and tomorrow I have to drive for quite a few hours with both children. Has anyone found anything that reduces the pain quickly,? It's unbearable feeling like I am being regularly tasered and knowing I have a long journey tomorrow with it, is stressing me. Everything I have read says codeine etc won't help 😭

Heat packs help for me.

Thanks @Elphame I'm currently laying on a hot water bottle. Do you take carbamazapine? I'm thinking of asking the GP to add in baclofen in the hope that works quicker

No - I try and avoid taking drugs whenever possible.

I have some very definite triggers which means that if I take care to avoid them I rarely get an attack. It does mean that I try not to go out in a cold wind without wrapping my face in layers of fleece first. Not a good look but if there is a side effect to be had with a prescription drug then I will normally get it....

If I get caught out I try and have a hot drink and use a heat pack which normally calms things down within a few hours.

How are you today?

Thanks @Elphame , I didn't contact the GP yesterday as the hot water bottle/carbamazapine had calmed it down loads, but it is just starting to flair up again today so I think I need to try and work out what my triggers actually are!!
