What is this under my fingernail? Worried about tumor (picture included)

Can anyone help. I have had a reddish/blue mark under my little fingernail for quite a long time (couple of years or more). I ignored it thinking it would grow out but it has not changed at all. Recently it has started throbbing and I am now worried it might be a tumor. I am waiting for a GP appointment to discuss but was wondering if anyone has had anything similar?

So as the nail grows out, there isn't a dark mark within the nail? Its actually in the nail bed? And its been there years? There was a similar thread recently which i'll post if I find it. I'd glad you are finally seeing your GP about. Its likely nothing, but worth checking.

Small bruise?
Something got pushed under and area is inflamed?
I’ve never heard of an under nail tumour.

Look up subungual melanoma! The OP has has it years, not a recent bruise!

Thanks all, yes it stays there as the nail grows out. I don't think it is a melanoma as there is no line. I was wondering about a glomus tumor although they seem rare. Anyone know about these?

This was the thread I was thinking about. They'd only had the mark 3 weeks though, and a toe.

Thank you, I think though that one ended up being a bruise as it grew out.

A blood vessel, like a varicose vein but under a nail?

That's quite a convincing diagnosis actually. Reassuringly usually benign.

Yes, the thread I posted was just a bruise thank fully. I thought it might be helpful because lots of other opinions/thoughts were on there too- obviously not all correct and not about your own finger issue.

In case anyone else has anything similar I thought I would update. I have now seen a dermatologist and it is indeed a globus tumor.

They are really interesting as they mainly occur in youngish females on the non dominant hand and are linked to temperature regulation (hence why they hurt when exposed to heat or cold).

They good news is that they are benign however I have opted for removal due to the pain it is causing. Supposedly they can peel back the fingernail to remove it.

Gosh, thank you for the update OP. I'm glad you are able to get it sorted and hopefully painfree very soon x
