Please help me with this horrendous pressure headache

I got sent to A&E by out of hours for this headache on Sunday. It's horrible, it's in my head, neck and face. I keep feeling nauseous as well. I feel like there's huge pressure in my head and neck and even my ears and nose. It's a pounding sort of headache. A&E did a thorough examination and a CT scan, which was normal.
It seems to be worse in certain positions, like when I lay down in the bath this morning it got really bad and I instantly felt nauseous but sometimes it seems to improve when I lie on my bed (bed isn't totally flat, I raised the head due to hiatus hernia and reflux).
Paracetamol and ibuprofen are not helping either.
Things to note - I recently started getting migraines more frequently but this doesn't seem to be a migraine type headache (it's my whole head) and it's been going on for a week now. Sometimes it's worse than others but it's really bothering me at the moment.
I have menieres disease, which causes ear fullness and pressure but this is another level of pressure that I've not experienced before.
I have TMJ, which seem to have recently got worse, probably due to stress and recent dental work. I do have a mouth guard but it doesn't help much apart from stopping my teeth touching. I'm still really tense.
I been using beconase for a few weeks, on and off, due to a bad cold a while ago.
Any ideas of what could be causing this and what I could do for pain relief? It's really getting me down.

Forgot to add, I also sometimes have a sensation of my head being pulled backwards and I've seen sort of stars in my eyes when bending down and getting up again and sometimes I can see my pulse in my vision, which is weird.

I suffer with migraines.
I find paracetamol, full fat coke and laying in the dark. Sometimes they last 48hrs.
Good news your scan was clear.

and I've seen sort of stars in my eyes when bending down and getting up again

That can be sinus related, but after reading you suffer from TMJ which has got worse i would say it is this. Go back to your dentist and say the mouth guard isn't working... unless everything got worse after dental work in which case something he did has misaligned your jaw.

@LittleGreenDragons thank you I was wondering if it was related to the tmj, although it seemed to have improved today until I lay down to do some physio exercises at about 3pm and the head pressure came back instantly. I'm not sure what's going on tbh. Very weird. Drs on Tuesday so hopefully will either get referred for further investigations or to a specialist or something.

Sounds like sinus, it's miserable. You could try steaming every day X3 with a steam mug and olbas oil . You need to be commited and do it for a month but it's the only thing that helps me even if I'm not bunged up/ snotty. Beconase spray helps too.

AnotherVice · 18/07/2024 18:20

900mg aspirin

CreatingHavoc · 18/07/2024 18:20

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I'm already using beconase but keep forgetting to use it as regularly as I'm supposed to. Will have to set a couple of alarms. Will try steaming as well.

I do carry a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders so it could also be something to do with that. I googled and unfortunately it gave me about 20 different possible causes!

Look up neck exercises on YouTube, they really help me.

I have TMJ and suffered headaches for years which I thought were sinus headaches and had multiple multiple antibiotics. I got botox in my masseter muscle and I can't not describe the relief. Headache free for first time in years. Worth a try and simple way to ease your pain if it works

Itsalwaysthelasttime · 18/07/2024 19:05

I am a massage therapist I had a client who really suffered from similar. Massages helped but only temporary relief she got botox in jaw her entire back relaxed neck everything the change was astonishing.

Fraa · 18/07/2024 20:22

I've had similar for a few days though not as bad as you, and it moves from one side of head to the other.

Mine is I think sinus infection, but without any snot, probably triggered by hay fever. I feel dizzy, slight temperature, nauseous, terrible headache, one eye is a bit blurry. Have done Sudafed, nurofen, saline spray, eye drops but it is still lingering on.

Having an early night and hoping it's gone tomorrow!

CreatingHavoc · 18/07/2024 21:30

@Beyondbeliefsometimes @Itsalwaysthelasttime wow sounds like I need to try the botox. I've looked in to it before but I know NHS only refer in certain cases.

Use a vibrator as a massager (or an actual massager if you have one!) Gently all over head, face, neck. Also use 4head, tiger balm etc on forehead, top of jaw/just in front of ears and neck.
