Ibs D

I’ve had flare ups of ibs d probably twice a year for as long as I can remember. 18 months ago I saw a gastroenterologist and had scans and fit test etc. also had blood tests to rule out celiac etc. it generally appears when I’ve been stressed and this year has been very traumatic for me so I’m not surprised I’m having a flare up but goodness it’s so frustrating. I am on about day 10 now and previous episodes have gone on for weeks.
I basically wake up and the cramps start immediately and I have an uncomfortable couple of hours, by lunchtime I feel normal again for the rest of the day except maybe occasional bloating.
I guess what I’m wondering is what to take to help as I appear to have the whole pharmacy in my drawers! I am taking biokult twice a day - and yakult. But always hesitant whether to take Imodium- I wonder if that may stop the anxious cycle? I have buscopan, colpermin, colofac etc but never sure which one to stick with. Any tips? Thank you

Ask your Dr or gastro consultant to try amitriptyline.

Thanks - I might ask to try this as I’m now in to week 5 of this. Again I know I’ve had this before - I think 6 weeks is the most it’s gone on for. But I can’t seem to get on top of it at the moment.

Loperamide and buscopan work for me. I take loperamide pretty much every day.

Mine starts at 3/4 in the morning and it is a literal PItA.

Have tried an elongation diet? For me (and everyone is different) I can't anything whole meal, greasy eg fish and chips or very rich food.

Have you had a colonoscopy with biopsies? It could be microscopic colitis even if you’ve had crohns and colitis ruled out.
