I've had a cough for 6 months...

It started as either a virus or chest infection, coughing up all sorts of phlegm. This got better mostly but the cough continued for a couple of months and then came back with a vengeance - I suspect I had covid although the tests were negative. I was very ill either way.

Since recovery I've been fine apart from the cough is not going! It's not a bad cough and is more dry than chesty, but I don't understand why it isn't shifting. I've been to the GP a couple of times but they don't seem concerned, they did a swab but nothing came up.

I should mention I'm pregnant, so I'm kind of worried about why it's persisting? It's been 6 months now!

Should I be pushing for more tests? It's not particularly impacting my life negatively and I don't feel ill but its just annoying that it's still there.

Thanks!

Could be asthma.

I had a bad chest infection one year (pre covid times) and coughed for months afterwards. After investigation, the GP diagnosed adult onset asthma.

It's pretty well controlled and nowadays I only experience coughing from certain triggers (exercise, pollen etc).

I had a cough for about the same sort of time and saw the gp who said it was post nasal drip. I use a steroid nose spray, Beconase something % bought from Sainsburys, and that really helps.

I had a cough for months when I was pregnant and the GP thought it was post nasal drip. I was given an inhaler to use which helped. The cough went when I had my DD and I didn’t need the inhaler again.

I’ve had something similar, I’m on month 4 now maybe. Was really unwell with an awful dry cough back in April.
I feel completely fine, just this persistent dry cough that keeps popping up during the day. Some days better than others. It’s so weird.
interesting to know others have had similar.

They need to look a bit harder. You could get worse as pregnancy makes you more vulnerable.
