Ibuprofen or phenylephrine?

BippetyBoppetyBooHoo · 05/07/2024 20:33

I have constant inflamed sinuses and sinus headaches. Sometimes allergy symptoms too. I've been referred to ENT. But in the meantime I'm guessing it's not great to take ibuprofen almost daily....so is it any better to take flu medicine that has phenylephrine in it regularly?

I already take dysmista nasal spray twice daily prescribed by GP.

Thanke.

DH was told by his GP that ibuprofen only works as an anti inflammatory once its been taken for 2 weeks. You just have to keep an eye out for possible side effects and stop if you do experience those.

I don't have much faith in cold and flu medicine. Never found it any better than plain paracetamol.

I've found turmeric to be good for sinuses too.

100% not Ibuprofen long term
It will kill your kidneys

I'd not take the phenylephrine until you see the ENT. It's to treat the sinuses and can change the symptoms you are experiencing. I agree with PP re the Ibuprofen. It's not good long-term unless under a dr's care, it reduces swelling so you may present as having no inflammation. As I cannot take phenylephrine nor Ibuprofen, I use saline spray, and Vick's Vapor Rub when my sinuses are swollen. I've found the symptoms are worse when the pollen count is high, and keep windows closed, etc.. It's a pain, literally and figuratively. Good luck.

A pollen filter in the bedroom might help too

It's definitely not pollen related as I'm always much better when I am outside and inside when windows are open. Paracetamol makes no difference.

I'm so miserable with it and no idea how long the wait is for ENT.
