Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation. I've had stomach / bowel issues for nearly 20 years. When I was pregnant it got really bad and I was going to toilet circa 6 times a day. Doctor did calprotectin test which was 464. But because I was pregnant they couldn't do anything else expect monitor. 2 months later calprotectin was normal and was normal for 2 years. 2 months ago it was 98, doctor wanted to repeat the test which has come back at 102. I have an appointment in August with a gastro consultant and I'm terrified it's cancer. My stomach / bowel was fine when result was 98 and pretty bad when 102. Back to normal for 2 weeks and bad again. So worried its cancer. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Hi, my calprotectin was over 600 last year and I had a 3 month flare up of Diarrhoea and all the symptoms of crohns disease, I had a colonoscopy and MRI scan and it came back normal. The gastro consultant thinks its IBS. Try not to worry about cancer, I had a lot of symptoms that pointed to bowel cancer and it wasn't.

I have ulcerative colitis and atm my calprotectin is 300 odd. I've had to triple my meds but the meds were making me feel so poorly . It could just be a flare up . Are you on any meds atm?

Thanks GG1986! That's reassuring. That's great you are fine 🙂

Hi Aysh86, thanks for your reply. I'm not on any medications. Because my calprotectin has remained normal after pregnancy doctor has just kept monitoring it. Maybe best to get an mri or colonoscopy to get a confirmation what is happening.

Yes , definitely best to have a colonoscopy , they will be able to see what'd going on . Do you have any other symptoms? If they thought it was cancer they would see you much sooner , don't worry x

Mine was all over the shop a couple of years sgo
first was about 360
retake (by this time I’d seen a consultant privately) was over 2000 /
clear colonoscopy
still had symptoms so had another nhs one and it was 7
I think it was a bad GORD flare - still trying to get that under control though - forever trying meds/diet/lifestyle changes.
Am not getting the diarrhoea anymore though at least and I feel well.

Thanks! No other symptoms and I'm feeling fine 🙂

More likely to be Crohns or Colitis.
