Canker sore. HELP!

I started with a mouth ulcer yesterday, right on the fleshy bit at the back of my gum/throat. The redness goes up the side and the pain is unbearable, it's affecting my ear, it's inflamed and can't speak without biting it by accident. Eating feels out of the question right now.
Apart from salt water and anbesol does anyone have any fast pain relief?
I've been incredibly stressed for a week now so think that's what's triggered it.

I’d be getting that checked if it’s affecting your ear and swallowing

Gargle with warm salt water will help.

CollyBobble · 05/07/2024 07:31

Try to keep the warm salt water in your mouth and swish around over area if you can.

Take paracetamol and gargle with Corsodyl mouthwash (the chlorhexadine one).

My DH is a chronic sufferer and this is the only thing that works.

This.

GP can prescribe steroid tablets you can dissolve and gargle with.

Would it not need to be a dentist because it's mouth related?

Either or really.

I have severe mouth ulcer and oral thrush issues related to autoimmune issues and I am under an oral specialist at the hospital but prior to that I’ve seen both the dentist and GP about it.

Have you ever had one behind your back teeth towards the throat? Wouldn't be bothered if it was on my gum or near the front but it's quite near the back.
Went to the chemist who suggested dentist as it's got bigger but it's only been 2 days so I expect it to grow before it heals. Salt water is easing the pain

Oh yes many times. And then mine turn into huge blood blisters (lupus). But this isn’t common. I am on long term treatment - steroids, steroid mouthwash, nystatin and Fluconazole. I do think you should get someone medical to have a look at it.

She said 'its just an ulcer'. Carry on rinsing with salt water and try difflam to numb it, because it's only been there a few days it should be fine.
However I think it's quite deep and it's so inflamed, it hurts to talk, barely managed to eat tea and went to bed and fell asleep because the pain has been so bad it's worn me out. Surely tomorrow it's got to start feeling better. Thanks for asking 🤗
