Lump on wrist

Has anyone had a lump like this on wrist? I work in healthcare mainly taking bloods and my left hand where the lump is is the hand I use for changing bottles, drawing back plunger etc, I noticed maybe early last year that sometimes my middle finger would ‘stick’ and I’d struggle to release it and then occasionally I would get wrist pain, I thought this may be carpal tunnel as my mum had this terribly and I thought some symptoms were similar. In November I have now noticed this lump on the back of my wrist, it’s sometimes not noticeable and sometimes it gets a bit bigger, not sore to touch but sore with movement, bending using it at work etc. if I have my hand flat I can’t feel where it is or see it but can see it is swollen where the lump is in comparison to the other wrist. It feels squishy yet hard at the same time so I thought maybe ganglion cyst? But thought they would be totally so not sure anyone else had this?

Ganglion?

Just fully read your post, and yes I’d say ganglion. Not sure if/what they will do about it though. I’m sure years ago they hit it with a book!

Second ganglion. I’ve got one at the moment

@Tulipvase wasn’t it specifically the bible they hit it with

Yes I think you are right!

Thanks that puts my mind at ease at bit I was panicking maybe it was arthritic maybe or maybe carpal tunnel related like a bone spur as it is harder than I expected a ganglion to be

my colleagues said hit it with a book but that is not recommended guidelines now 😂 like I say it comes and goes sometimes it’s much smaller then at the minute it is swollen think it depends what I’ve been doing with that hand, I’ve been bandaging this week so a bit of strain there. If I put my hand flat on the floor to stand up there is shooting pains and sometimes pins and needles

My mother hit hers with a hammer! It went.

BiscuityBoyle · 30/06/2024 15:40

DH had one on his foot. The GP told him that the traditional cure was to hit it was a bible. He declined that, it went by itself after a few years.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 30/06/2024 15:44

what causes them? I haven’t injured it but wonder if it’s like repetitive strain

Almost definitely a ganglion. Mine came and went for about 10 years then came and stayed so I had it surgically removed. Surgeon did a great job and you can just see the scar hidden in a crease on my wrist

It's a simple ganglion. Eventually it will go but can take years. May go up and down. Traditional treatment was 'bash it with a bible' to rupture the membrane and allow resorption of the jelly-liquid inside.

I had one i had to have aspirated due to pain and pins and needles. It's been 5 years since and sometimes i will be holding something in that hand and then i won't be without deliberately letting go as i think i had nerve damage from leaving it too long

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 30/06/2024 16:39

I had a ganglion cyst on my wrist earlier this year. Since I rest my laptop on a large lectern Bible (to raise the height on my desk) I thought I'd try a traditional self cure.
I banged my wrist hard on the Bible, it hurt rather a lot, however the cyst was immediately reduced in size by about 50%. I realised a few weeks later that it had completely disappeared.
Clearly Divine intervention 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Ex had one on his wrist. Went to the doctor with it, who said 'look the other way', and bashed it hard with a medical encyclopedia. It did the trick!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 30/06/2024 16:46

I suppose that was why there used to be Gideon Bibles in hotel rooms - a sort of medical kit.

It was meant to be a family bible-ie a large one. Those little Gideons wouldn't do!

I had a tiny one on a tendon on my foot. I bashed it with a big book and it went. The area went all warm for a bit, it was tres odd. It hasn’t come back though, and this was maybe 5/6 years ago.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 30/06/2024 17:21

I've just had one on the inside of my wrist. I got a bit self-conscious about it because I deal with the public and handing over money, because this thing got quite big. The other day I noticed that it was getting smaller, so hopefully it's shrinking away to nothing, because I've no idea where I'd find a Bible in this house...

Ah OK, thanks.
Do you think a Kelly's Directory would work? They used to have them at the Library.(although I don't think that it was in the Medical Section...)

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 02/07/2024 16:46

I have an identical, matching lump. Ganglion. I had it drained and before I even left the surgery it was back. So now we have a non violent relationship and I leave it alone as long as it doesn't trouble me.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 02/07/2024 19:02

@EddieVeddersfoxymop that is reassuring, it is particularly big and painful at the minute more so like it’s pressing on a nerve, if I apply cold it helps. I don’t think I can do anything for it myself as it feels too hard to go bashing it myself 😂
