Wtf has happened to my thyroid?!

15 weeks pregnant so assuming it’s of some relevance.

Was putting suncream on my neck yesterday and realised there was a sizeable lump, looked in the mirror and got DP to confirm he could also see/feel it. I’ve got a bloody goitre!

Thyroid tests were within range about 8 months ago so I can only imagine it’s pregnancy-related. GP was excellent, considering I phoned them at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon. Duty doctor called me straight back and has booked me in for next week.

Trying not to worry about it too much but just can’t understand how a lump measuring about 5x5cm has appeared in my neck without me really noticing! It’s painless and moveable. I’ve noticed some slight croakiness in my voice recently but put it down to hayfever.

Anyone else’s thyroid gone wonky in pregnancy and all has been well?

This hasn’t happened to me but I know it’s pretty common for the thyroid to become underactive in pregnancy. (Which would be connected to goitre) What was your TSH when it was last tested? Have you tested since your pregnancy?

Just checked my app and results were 12 months ago so a bit longer than I’d thought. TSH was 1.4 and T4 was 11, so both in range.

Haven’t been retested since falling pregnant but imagine GP will request next week!

Bit of an unexpectedly shitty update. Saw GP this morning and she’s put me on the 2ww pathway 😬

Does that mean she wants to rule out a cancer? Sorry to hear that OP, how are you doing? What else does she think it could be?

Yes, she’s concerned as it’s come on so quickly and is painless. GP is also pregnant so is perhaps treating me with a little more care and caution than another GP might have. She’s not sure what exactly it could be so she’s requested a battery of blood tests and of course the urgent referral to the head and neck team.

Trying not to get too worried but as a nurse, I hear the 2ww mentioned and of course I panic 😫
