Hi all, due to have a total thyroidectomy in the next 4 weeks, I just wondered if anyone has any advice for the day, the recovery any tips or tricks or things you wish you had known before? I’ve never had an op so slightly apprehensive about the GA however I know it needs to be done! Tia x

Hi, I had thyroidectomy in March. I went home the next morning. Stiff neck and sore throat to be expected. Make sure you do your neck exercises. I used bio oil for the scar and it’s healed very well. I also bought a 50 factor buffy I wear around my neck with 50 factor sunscreen. If it gets burnt it will never fade. I’m struggling to get my dose of thyroxine correct, I’m lactose intolerant so that is not helping. My advice would be see an Endo if your GP is not up to speed with thyroid results. Good luck, you will be fine

Thanks so much :) to be honest I’ve had that many issues all my life I’m kinda thankful they’ve found this follicular lesion that they want to remove it, they offered me a Hemi but I have a goitre I have this follicular lesion on the right and cystic nodules on the left and my
thyroid has always just been so low so when I asked to just get it all gone they’ve agreed as if they test my lesion and it’s cancer then I’ll have to have the rest removed anyway, and they’ve told me 40% chance it’s going to be malignant so I just said get it all done 🤣. Sorry to hear you are struggling I hope you manage to get it sorted! And I’m glad you’re healing ok. Xx
