Is my DD constipated?

My 9 wk old DD has now gone a week without a poo. I've heard it's normal for BF babies to go this long but need reassurance. The health visitor has suggested giving him an ounce of orange juice remedy constipation- has anyone tried this? Any advice would be really apreciated.

I wouldn't give a nine week old orange juice.

Massaging his tummy in clockwise circles can help, and so can lying him on his back and bicycling his legs.

Warm baths are often a trigger for a poo, so maybe try a warm bath followed by the massage and the leg bicycling.

Is he showing any sign of discomfort? If not then I wouldn't worry too much - it can be completely normal.

Her, not he. Sorry

my ds (now 6mo) frequently went a week or sometimes more....was usually quite an event when happened! if plenty wet nappies and gaining weight and not showing any sign of distress/sore tummy then is ok.

I rushed 9-day-old ds to A&E as i thought he was really ill as would not stop screaming over a loooooooooooong period of time - they said he was constipated and diagnosed lactulose.

prescribed even. But if your dd is not showing any signs of discomfort, I would not worry, as WWB said.

Sorry, I'm new to all this, I meant DS- I thought it seemed a bit odd to give him Orange juice, like it might upset his tummy. I have tried him with a drop of cooled, boiled water but he spits it out. I will try the tummy massage and bath now I think. He doesn't seem to be in any discomfort but it just seems an awfully long time to go. I think I ust wanted reassurance that other babies go as long so thanks Wiredtothemoon and thanks for the advice Wigwambam.

Dd used to go for long periods without a poo - as wiredtothemoon says, the nappies are pretty spectacular when they do poo, so be prepared

Breast milk is such a perfect food that there is often little or no waste - and hence no poo.
