Tooth Abscess

Hi,
After a few weeks of tooth pain I was told on Monday I have an abscess and since then have been taking 3 x metronidazole (400mg) a day. The intense pain is subsiding but I still do have some pain, mostly at night. The tooth the abscess is on/near still feels odd when I bite my teeth together (i cant describe it, its as if the tooth isnt sitting flush) and I still cannot eat properly.

Does anybody know how long it will be before I feel normal again? I'm finding it so draning and I'm sure those around me are when they ask how I am :-)

(Just fyi, I kind of ignored the tooth pain originally because I'd had had my first ever deep clean so thought maybe the pain was caused by this and would subside).

Thanks 😊

It won’t feel normal until the tooth is definitively treated either by RCT or extraction. The source of the infection is the tooth so until it is treated the infection won’t simply go away

Hi thanks for your response
I guess I'm more asking whrn is this dreadful pain going to stop? I realise that the antibiotics aren't the long-term solution. I've just not had a decent nights sleep or had a day pain free in what seems like weeks. It's just woken me up and my left side of the face is throbbing, whrn I woke up I couldn't be sure if the pain was real or I was dreaming it - and I'm worried because the only thing that stops it is the zapain, until 2 weeks ago I rarely took a paracetamol.
Tomorrow is the fifth and final day of metronidazole.

Tooth pain is excruciating. As previous response said full course of antibiotics ( although metronidazole is evils) then get on with the root canal treatment as though it's tempting to leave it once you're feeling better it returns.
So sorry fir you it's dreadful

Oh I can't wait to get rid of it - they've suggested total removal as I have so much bone loss.
Thanks for replying to me!! Good to know I'm not going totally mad.
