Straightener burn

Anywhoyou · 26/06/2024 08:40

I somehow managed to drop my hot hair straighteners on my foot whilst putting them away (yes I am the clumsiest person ever)
but unsure if I need to go get it checked out. I really don’t want to go and sit up a&e on this really hot day!

Oof nasty. I wouldn't go to A&E for it though, that seems a bit OTT. I'd just google best treatment advice for minor burns and then keep an eye on it.

Anywhoyou · 26/06/2024 08:52

I’m supposed to be doing a 9 hour shift on my feet today. Wearing trainers 😫

A&E - no, not necessary. I'd see minor injuries or nurse at GP practice.

justpeachy1234 · 26/06/2024 09:00

I really wouldn't go to A&E for that, it's just a minor burn. Just cover it so it doesn't rub on your shoes.

K0OLA1D · 26/06/2024 09:02

Go to the chemist. They might have a burns dressing. It's like a second skin.

QuickMaff · 26/06/2024 09:04

I've done this countless times on different parts of my body (clumsy) and never even thought to have it checked out.
Just apply a light soothing moisturiser (not Vaseline jelly etc) and loosely cover it with clean bandage or a big plaster. If the blister pops just keep the area clean and dry.

bigmammycool · 26/06/2024 09:08

Run it under the cold tap for as long as possible,
A small bandage and your sock and it should be fine

KoiKoiKoi · 26/06/2024 09:08

I'd put some germolene on it, put a dressing/plaster over it and leave it. Let it air as much as poss when home. It will be sore for a while though.

FeetLing · 26/06/2024 09:09

I agree with others, I wouldn’t go to A&E for it (you’ll be waiting for hours) but you’ll have to be careful. Get a dressing in it and take it easy.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 26/06/2024 09:15

It looks to be something you can manage yourself. I think a pharmacist is the best bet for a decent dressing if you'll need to be in shoes all day, then remove and let it air as soon as you get home. Paracetamol if it's painful.

Anywhoyou · 26/06/2024 09:57

I’ve just been to the pharmacy. Unfortunately they didn’t have the right dressing but been advised to wrap it in clingfilm. Then sock on top so I can hopefully wear my trainers (I’m not allowed to wear any open shoes, this is what I’m most worried about) also when I said a&e I was meaning walk in centre. Just head is a bit fuzzy from the pain. Literally feel the burn inside my foot and every step I take

Go to a different chemist when you can.. they will have those dressings with jelenot( paraffin) or silver .
They will stop the burning feeling and keep it infection free. Get large ones to cover it all.

Anywhoyou · 26/06/2024 10:27

@Moier thank you. I work in the city centre so I’ll pop into boots on my way into work and hopefully they have something!
It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have such a long shift having to wear trainers..

I poured boiling water on the top of draining vegetables. It was a much bigger burn. I highly recommend a blister plaster to protect it, and it alleviates any pain.

JustLaura · 26/06/2024 12:38

I did the same but on my hand. I applied sudocrem a few times each day. It did take a few weeks to heal though.

JC03745 · 26/06/2024 12:44

Have you taken any oral analgesia? Paracetamol and/or ibuprofen to take the edge off? Did you run it under cool water for ages afterwards? I agree, I'd go to another pharmacy- even minor injuries is excessive IMO, but I work in healthcare.
Burns get worse before they get better. You might find it blisters up even more and if you ae wearing trainers and it gets rubbed- could rub the blister off. Any chance you could swap shifts with someone?
