Hi had a small bite yesterday and its grown massively have just had antibiotics prescribed over the phone by 111, they didnt say much or see it just prescribed the antibiotics. It keeps getting bigger every hour. Would you go go a&e or wait 24 hours for antibiotics to kick in

pic of dinner time today and 20 mins agi

I'd go to A&E with the antibiotics in hand. Better to be safe than to risk this turning into something really serious.

I've just posted on another thread with my lovely horsefly bite from a couple years ago. It left a growing red area like yours but the antibiotics did sort it. I don't think an immediate a&e trip is necessary but draw around the red area, start taking your antibiotics and be prepared to take yourself in if there's no sign of improvement

You can see my lines from where I was tracking it. It did get massive before it got better

Have you taken antihistamine? Antibiotics can take 24 hours to work, sometimes more depending on which ones. If you start feeling unwell or if it is getting much more painful that's when you need to worry

Cantgetausername87 · 24/06/2024 21:44

Yes I had similar. No need for A and E give the antibiotics some time to work. Cold compresses and anti histamines if it's still itching - hopefully will calm in a day or so x

WonderingWanda · 24/06/2024 21:44

I often get bites that big, I don't think it's infected its just an extreme reaction.

KnittedCardi · 24/06/2024 21:57

I've often had notes like that and never had snti-nootics. Have you taken an antihistamine and put HC cream on it??

StellaSmile · 24/06/2024 22:19

If it's like that within 24 hours that's a histamine reaction not infection.
Needs anti-histamine and topical steroid (A&E dr here)
