Bladder / back ache

Hoping someone out there has experienced this and can give some advice or suggestions.

I have a cervical polyp which is to be removed soon and I’m nervous because I am worried about but prior to discovering that - for 12 weeks I’ve had lower back ache and it’s worse after I pee. First pee in the morning is fine sometimes second then weird sensation starts in my lady bits - not painful but my back aches a lot. It’s not an infection, had antibiotics and no infection. I don’t feel full bladder and then trickle, I literally pee and then need to go again and it’s a lot, and I can’t understand where it has come from when I’ve literally pee’d 10 mins before! I feel anxious all the time at the moment and the mornings I feel fine until I start peeing and it’s like my bladder is irritated. But the back ache - that’s really getting me down. My bladder sometimes feel tender to touch too, particularly after peeing a few times in the day. The only time it is ok, is when my bladder is semi full? Which contradicts UTi which says it’s eased for a bit when voiding.

I’m no expert OP, but could it be Interstitial Cystitis?

I forgot to add, as the info suggests, typically there isn’t an infection with IC.

missiz · 24/06/2024 16:48

Would that cause lower back ache though?

Just had a look online, just to be sure I wasn’t given you false information, and lower back pain is a well known symptom of IC.

Sago1 · 24/06/2024 17:10

I thought I had Interstitial cystitis, my back pain was really severe at times and I could go to the loo every 10/15 minutes, even through the night.

I did my own research, I have developed a sensitive bladder.
I cut out all caffeine first, this was a vast improvement but I still had bad episodes, the culprits were, strawberries, raw tomatoes, gin/tonic, tangerines, pineapple and acidic fruits.

As long as I stay clear of all the above I’m fine.
On Monday I did a 4 hour drive without a stop, that would have been impossible in the past

Have a look at hypertonic pelvic floor symptoms. I have this and I was forever on antibiotics thinking it was a UTI. Has very similar symptoms to UTI but obviously the tests come back negative for infection.
It may not be this but it's well worth researching it and trying out some of the relaxing breathing they recommend as it may help with your anxiety too.

missiz · 24/06/2024 17:49

I didn’t realise that. I haven’t read anything that says it.

It’s worse when I pee. It feels achy and my bladder is tender too. It’s only ever ok when bladder fills. When I wake up, it’s barely there and I go loo and it starts up :(

Have a look at Jilly Bond on YouTube. She's a pelvic physio and she explains things really well.
It took me over a year to get any answers because it's not something the doctors appear to really know about. The doctors diagnosed me with sensitive bladder but the treatment wasn't working. It was only because I was under another physio and I discussed the problems I was having as a separate issue and she referred me to the pelvic health physio.
Mine gets worse if I'm stressed or anxious and it's been bought about because of frequent utis so my pelvic floor goes into protection mode to protect my bladder. It's very complicated but makes complete sense once you read up about it.

Thanks for that and I’ll definitely look. Do you find it hurts more after peeing? It’s my back and hips but also bladder can feel tender. First thing in morning always easier. Developed this 12 weeks ago when I was told I have a cervical polyp and I’ve been so frightened :(

@Sago1 did you find it was more painful after weeing? Your back I mean?

I feel like my bladder is never fully empty. Like I’ll go, wee and then 10 mins later back again and lots of pee!

Mine shows like a UTI. So I permanently feel like I need to wee but don't have the stinging sensation you get with a uti. My lower stomach feels very sensitive around my bladder. I also have problems with pooing, they tend to be long and thin because all the muscles have tensed and don't know how to release themselves(tmi sorry). I also get lower backache with it.My symptoms are fairly under control at the moment because I've got exercises to do for when it flares up.
Definitely worth a trip to your doctor's though to rule out other things, but there's no harm in trying some of the exercises that Jilly Bond talks you through as they made a difference quite quickly for me.

missiz · 24/06/2024 23:00

Hi. It’s not tmi, totally get it and we are all women together eh.
I find my back aches more when I’ve wee’d and I get a sensation in my bladder ans pubic area. Discomfort and it’s horrible. My hips have been aching / tender and sore too. Not sure it sounds like pelvic thing but it’s worth looking at x

I have symptoms similar to this. I've just been diagnosed with pelvic organ prolapse. In my case it's the rectum and bladder that are prolapsing. It causes me back and hip pain, irritated bladder and I often pee then need to pee again soon and it's still a lot. Might be worth checking out if you can rule out the other things.

missiz · 25/06/2024 11:15

I had an ultrasound - nothing like that showed. Not sure if it is….
it’s horrible though isn’t it
