Should I be worried I still have symptoms 3 weeks after concussion and whiplash?

Headaches and pain in head has gone but have tingling sensations around my body, feel slightly nauseous and still quite spaced out and forget words. Saw Consultant at A&E one week in and he wasn't concerned and prescribed rest and limited screens but it's dragging along, should I be patient or should I go back? Is it normal to last this long? Thanks

I'd be asking the gp that question this week.

WifeOfSnore · 24/06/2024 13:18

I had concussion symptoms for 6 months plus - there's something called Post Concussion Syndrome if you look it up

3 weeks is still quite a short time to recover from a head injury especially if you aren't resting fully

They generally don't do any further investigations if your symptoms are mild and not urgent/worsening I found

But definitely ask the GP if you are worried

Thank you, that provides me with reassurance. Appreciate your response @WifeOfSnore. I am 3 weeks in tomorrow, perhaps I will leave til 4 weeks and then see if I should speak to the doctor again. Sorry you had it for such a long time. I would normally be more patient but I may have an interview in the next few weeks and then we are going on a holiday of a lifetime at end of July and really hope I feel normal-ish by then. I can’t get some works out and get the wrong which is infuriating!

I would see for again and take some arnica 30 also has been incredible for concussion here

Greenbanana7 · 25/08/2024 21:31

@WifeOfSnore just found this thread, I've had concussion for the last 3 months and starting to feel when/if it will ever end. Did you do anything that helped? Did you get any particular medical support? The memory loss is possibly the most challenging and affecting both my home life and work. Thank you in advance

WifeOfSnore · 27/08/2024 09:44

Hi apologies @Greenbanana7 I had name changed so didn't see this for a while

nothing much helped I hate to say - one thing I did learn afterwards is that fasting can help (though doesn't help everyone). If you google it, you'll see it has some application in traumatic brain injury

I would go back to the doctor and see if they can refer you to a physio that specialises in head injury rehabilitation - I didn't do this but I wish I had done as apparently it can be useful

I went on to develop Long Covid and apparently they now think having post concussion syndrome is a risk factor for this :(

I hope you get better soon - it's a horrible condition

@WifeOfSnore thanks for taking the time to respond.
I'm at my wits end after 3 months for God knows how you managed 6 plus. But glad to know that for you it finally went away and that gives me hope that it will too for me.
I'm usually a very confident person but it's made me feel very anxious and not like myself at all.
I have got a docs appointment for Thursday and will raise your suggestions with them.
I've got an interview on Monday which I am likely to bomb as my memory is shot to s*it! Bloody annoying as have been preparing for it for ages but nothing going in.
Sorry that you got Long Covid too and hope you are feeling better now
