I'm based in Ireland so not sure of the situation in the UK. My FIL has been hospitalised for most of this year as he is getting generally more feeble. There are question marks about dementia but I understand he hasn't been formally assessed. Always an angry and selfish man, his behaviour is out of control. He has been physically and verbally abusive to hospital staff, hit another patient, and during a brief stay at home got violent with my MIL, so social workers are now involved. From what I've heard, there is no care home who is willing to accept him. My DH is heading over shortly and his brother, who is UK based is doing all he can to but it would be good to hear from anyone who may have faced a situation like this
