Gabapentin

Bloody hell, my GP has prescribed gabapentin for my chronic sciatica which does get me down.
The initial dose is 100 mgs and I can go up to 300 mgs if I need to.
Well I'm glad I started off low because my first dose knocked me out within 15 minutes and when I woke up the next morning very late, I normally wake up at 6am, I was in exactly the position I went to sleep in with no covers on and dribbling.
Now I'm up I feel like I've been coshed.
All very well while I'm off sick but when I go back to work I need to be awake.
Does this chemical cosh wear off or is it a permanent thing - any of you take this?

I think the initial side effects wear off after a while

I've taken gabapentin for 7 years. 1600mg a day.

It proper spaced me out for a good couple of weeks but when I started on it, I was also on a combination of other meds too, so that didn't help. It took a good couple of weeks to feel "normal" but once i had stopped all the other meds, it definitely got better.
